January 9, 2021 - The '99 Casa Mate is a very enjoyable wine and may be nearing peak. It offered the flavor profile I expect out of this vineyard from Elio Grasso, just with a bit less concentration and complexity than the wines being produced there today. On the nose, I found black fruit, sweet spices, menthol, and licorice. On the palate, the wine was medium in body with good acidity, and tannin still lingering at the back end but on their way to becoming well integrated. I found black fruit, sweet spices, black tea, and tobacco on the palate. The wine was nicely expressive and a pleasure to drink - a wine that outperformed at the table vs. what the score or this note probably conveys.

January 24, 2020 - Not surprisingly, this seems younger and less advanced than the Chiniera tasted next to it. Notes of darker fruit, tar, black tea, menthol, balsamic notes too, sweet dark cherries. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium-high acidity and medium-high tannin that still needs some time to resolve. Very good length. This might still need another few years, but really beautiful. (93+)

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, slightly brown twinge at least around the edges. Nose of barnyard, leather and anise. Flavors of licorice, berries and Ricola. Tart acidity, drying tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink. No rating. Seems a bit pre-moxed or otherwise damaged.

April 3, 2019 - Dense translucent color, orange, rust, brown brick and autumn colors. Iodine, leather, tobacco, caramel, and orange mixed with currant and funk. Tastes are licorice, unripe cherry, very dry and tannic with some black coffee taste on the finish.

April 7, 2017 - Typischer gereifter Barolo. Frucht nicht mehr stark. Schön integriert. Aber nichts wirklich Besonderes.
