March 14, 2023 - Tasted alongside a '99 Brezza Bricco Sarmassa. This was in fine shape with a lighter color, more elegant fruit and a fantastic saline quality on the finish. This was fantastic from the get go and developed into a very compact and linear wine. A small touch of wood in the mid palate. Still many years left to go on this bottle if I had the same one in my cellar, I would try again in 3 years.

January 9, 2021 - The '99 Casa Mate is a very enjoyable wine and may be nearing peak. It offered the flavor profile I expect out of this vineyard from Elio Grasso, just with a bit less concentration and complexity than the wines being produced there today. On the nose, I found black fruit, sweet spices, menthol, and licorice. On the palate, the wine was medium in body with good acidity, and tannin still lingering at the back end but on their way to becoming well integrated. I found black fruit, sweet spices, black tea, and tobacco on the palate. The wine was nicely expressive and a pleasure to drink - a wine that outperformed at the table vs. what the score or this note probably conveys.
