January 28, 2024 - Krug Lover Dinner with Olivier Krug (Daniel Dal Ban 1876 (Tafelspitz) Düsseldorf): not blind
Didn't have it for a long time. Better than expected. 1995 is not my favourite vintage at Krug. Close to his peak. Saline, lush and balanced. 95

December 1, 2023 - 50th Birthday Bash: Wonderfully aged vintage brut. Full bodied, slightly oxidized due to age, and a fine long finish. Drink up. Probably won't get much better with age.

October 29, 2023 - Ojai Food + Wine Festival; 10/26/2023-10/29/2023 (Ojai Valley Inn): WHOA. Drank this after a '98 and '96 and I would have guessed it was a decade+ younger than those wines. Full of life, lighter in color, very little oxidized notes, FULL of bubbles. Wow. Just stunning.

September 16, 2023 - Very mature, verging on post mature. Deeply burnished copper color. Classic Krug notes of rye bread and walnuts. Good mousse for age. Fragrant. Deep and rich and lingering. Good acidity. But Krug does not age forever even from a perfectly stored bottle like this one.

August 17, 2023 - served first at a champagne/chevalier dinner and it stole the show. very rich wine with loads of dried turkish apricots which provided a certain rich heaviness but that was nothing compared to the bold searing, mouthcoating, and absolutely singing acidity that followed. Overall very rich, very fresh, and very alive. At first we all sat around and sipped in dumbfound silence. Memorable wow wine.

April 6, 2023 - BYOK with Olivier Krug at Next (Chicago, IL): Of the four vintages in the 1990s (1990, 1995, 1996, 1998), Olivier says that this is the one that tends to be favoured the most when the family drinks them together. It's not a showy wine, but there's just something really well put together about it. Very structured, but excellent balance between fruit that is more primary than not and the acidic tension. Still drinks quite fresh; it wouldn't be difficult to mistake this for something 10 years younger). Sturdy and stalwart; I'm a little sad that I missed the boat on picking these up for my own cellar, as this seems to just keep getting better and better.
