July 5, 2020 - Another bottle, another disappointing experience. Not bad, just unremarkable for the price. Last bottle in April was the same, so it isn't the bottle, it is the batch. Varietally correct, but otherwise not much to it. A tad more bitter and certainly not elegant.
April 27, 2020 - We found this to be unremarkable. 100% varietally correct and absolutely no defects, just not a lot to it character or depth-wise. It is possible we let it breathe too long (5 hours), so we'll try the next bottle with limited air.
It is also possible this was an "off" bottle, but nonetheless, based solely on this bottle, bad QPR and would not repurchase, which is hard for me to say, because we've had great bottles from Two hands before, mostly Angels' Share.
March 29, 2020 - It is so so smooth and polished. Blackberry and minerals. I can’t imagine it will get better.
February 12, 2020 - Monthly Tasting Group HWS #146; Australian Shiraz (By JZ): Impressive bouquet with red and dark berries and a firm dose of oak, mint and eucalyptus. On the palate a full bodied wine with vanilla, sweet spices, clove, red berries, tobacco, fresh acidity and cherries in the finish.
October 12, 2019 - Nice with black pepper, spice floral and blackberry.
August 18, 2019 - Maybe just me, but had high expectations and was disappointed with this bottle. Seemed harsh with bitterness and not much fruit. Everyone else thought it was OK but not too encouraging. Off bottle?
August 17, 2019 - Day 1: Amazing best bottle of the lot. Raspberries, cherry, floral, dust and chocolate. Medium plus finish and balanced effort. 92 points
Day 2: More rustic with dust, floral, earth, sour fruits and rhubarb. Medium finish. Not as good and we will see how this pans out on day 3. 88 points
Day 3: Better than day 2 but not the same as day 1. Raspberries, menthol, dust, floral and chocolate. Medium plus finish. Solid. 90 points
Recommendation: Drink now or hold for a few years.
August 15, 2019 - Day 3: Raspberries, floral, perfume, spice and pepper. Medium plus finish. Big wine and wonderful flavors. Another winner from Two Hands. 91 points
July 27, 2019 - I like Syrah but usually don’t like Australian Syrah as much because I greatly prefer an old world/Rhôneish style; I got this in a random mixed pack and expected the worst. I’m pleasantly surprised. The alcohol is very restrained here, it’s quite fruity but not overripe, the tannins are very soft but there’s a lot more acid than I’m used to in this style. Blue/black fruit, some mineral and rock, not especially expressive or complex but nice, and easy to drink. A lot fresher and more restrained than you’d expect. I don’t know what this retails for but I pod $10/bottle for the case it came in and for that I’m happy... 5.5-6/10
EDIT: I meant to say, while the acid is keeping this alive it tastes like maybe a year past prime already and I wouldn’t hold bottles any longer.
February 21, 2019 - Big Top Closeout Deal Wines; 11/22/2018-2/24/2019 (Minneapolis/ St. Paul MN): Day 1: Blackberries, black licorice, floral and tea leaves. Good acidity on this one with some nice sour cherries on the finish. Very balanced wine overall and well made. Not a fruit bomb or over the top alcoholic Aussie wine. For $10 hello every day drinker!!!!!
Day 2: Spices, blackberries, blueberries, black pepper and tea leaves. Medium plus finish and decant acidity. While this is not at their single vineyard level it represents a great everyday drinking wine. 88 points
Day 3: Nice development over 3 days. More soy and tea leaves on day 3. Fruit is toned down. Very enjoyable and solid wine for just $10. 89 points
Recommendation: Drink now to 2022. Solid overall wine.
