Community Tasting Notes 6

December 2, 2022 - Dark crimson red, no transition. No signs of age. Heavy nose. Baking spices, an old leather couch, a cigar, decaying leaves, wet soil, and some flowery notes. The palate is a bit more polished than six years ago. Tertiary taste. Leather, licorice, tobacco. Some dark fruit, chocolate, and mint in the finish.

April 4, 2017 - Returned home from finals of the Handel Singing Competition at St George's Hanover Square to see that hers indoors had opened this "thankyou" from the radio hams who use our land on the North Downs.
Normally they give us the basic Baron de Ley Reserva (very serviceable) but this single estate example is in a different class. Closed nose, but immense concentration of fur-lined ripe damson and contrasting sour cherry fruit on the palate, hint of green capsicum and spice, suppressed oak and powerful core acidity.
Only for the brave at the moment, but when this comes together in a couple of years time should easily gain another point or so and at c.£19.00 retail represents good value. 90+

July 25, 2016 - Bought bottle in Stockholm airport for only $25 duty free. Enjoyed in Balestrand, Norway overlooking a beautiful fjord. Very smooth with some oak and a hint of pepper on the nose and on the finish. Should go for another 5-10 years. Spanish wines continue to deliver some of the best qpr.

July 21, 2016 - Overall an excellent and balanced Rioja. Soft fruit on the initial palate transitions nicely into a lasting finish of pepper and oak.
