July 21, 2019 - 2004 tête de cuvées blind (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. A huge dud. The dosage is wrong here. The nose is sweet and slightly skunky with some white grape juice thing. The palate has a distinct taste of sugar and is unintegrated. Not only that, this is frankly just kind of simple. Needless to say, the reveal was very disappointing.
July 13, 2019 - Tasted vertical of 02, 04, 06 and 08. Finished first...It is so approachable. Great fruit...biscuit, lemon, great acid and finish. Perhaps not the complexity of the 02 or 08, but a crowd pleaser for sure.
June 26, 2019 - 2004 Pol Roger Winston Churchill was tight, tight, tight. After two hours open it displayed an impressive degree of chalkiness, minerality and acidity but IMO needs at least 5 years to start loosening up. A recent 2006 was much more enjoyable though I'll probably prefer this in the long term.
May 24, 2019 - Wide open with hints of oxidation, this is bold and deep and quite satisfying. Not quite as harmonious as some examples of SWC but very good.
April 19, 2019 - Solid champagne and always at the top of my tete de cuvees. Could really feel the Pinot on this wine. Not sure of the blend but rich and unctuous. I always love it but competition was stiff tonight. Highest recommendation.
March 31, 2019 - The 2004 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill is nothing short of style. Almost 14 years of age and this it still youthful and firm. Toasty brioche, good density of citrus, bruised apples, biscuits and white fruits. Great body and ripe yellow fruits. Pinot driven red berry aromas with subtle almonds and dried fruits. Great energy and drive with a long finish. Drink now – 2034. (94/100)
March 10, 2019 - Classic champagne, brioche, very smooth mouth feel, elegant wine.
February 22, 2019 - Nez fort agréable et évolutif. Au départ la pomme domine, pour faire place par la suite à des notes de grillées, brioche beurre. En bouche, il est ample, bien rond et de très belle longueur. Très agréable
February 2, 2019 - Slightly disappointing compared to other vintages, seemed a bit awkward/disjointed but still lovely and no complaints, musty yeasty bread dough and honeyed citrus aromas, tastes of fresh baguette, lemon cream, and touch of toasted almonds on finish. Perhaps this will evolve as others suggest and integrate more fully. 91 - 93+ potential
December 22, 2018 - Chicago Wine Flock...Champagne Gala (Park Ridge Country Club): Small glass, brief note. Very rich and powerful, showcasing orchard and berry fruit nicely on both nose and palate. Still slightly firm and backward, better to cellar longer.
