September 7, 2019 - Decanted for 2 hours before back into the btl for trip to Mike & Sheryl's. Removed cork again upon arrival and poured a couple small glasses to further slow ox everything. Semi opaque bright ruby red. The tannins & oak were in pretty good stead but I was hoping to coax out more tertiary notes since this is almost age 15 this month. Never showed much aged BDX nuance tonight but, its pleasantly elegant enough to enjoy its late youth stage. Tonight a good nose with whiffs of; dark fruit, cedar and pencil. The palate is dominated by rich ripe blackberry at present but also shows cedar, currant, chocolate and minerality riding on sweet tannins and sound acidity. All bodes well for the future but, for my palate, its still primary and lacking any well aged nuance more likely achieved in another 5+ years. Call it ...91+ tonight.

August 10, 2019 - Silky smooth dark berries, stone, and cedar. Real polish but big. Begs for a steak. Nice structure. Delicious and fun to drink. Can't imagine anyone not liking this. Drink or hold.

July 23, 2019 - This wine is drinking in its prime window after 1 hour in the glass. Red raspberry, candy apple, cassis, barnyard, and cedar. Very light on its feet yet full bodied. Wine was bigger after a few hours. Sweetness throughout with nicely applied tannins. I suspect the bottle will age and grow for 5 plus years. Already showing secondary characteristics. Excellent bottle and worth three times the price.

July 18, 2019 - Bordeaux Night in the Santa Ynez Valley (An Anoymous Winery's Gorgeous Cellar Table): Having largely held off on my 2005's, it was a pleasure to encounter one in prime form, punching way above its weight. Showing fine balance and concentration, with notes of crushed stone, mocha, blue and black fruit and some toasted oak, well integrated. A great value.

(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) Exuberant and ripe berry fruit on the nose here, nuances of smoke, but overall the suggestion of gently fat, fleshy fruit. Good substance on the palate, again soft and a little loosely held together, but we have here flesh, rather firm and crunchy tannins and good vibrant acidity. I like the character presented on the nose and there are some appealingly bright characteristics present on the palate too. This has a lot of appeal and will be excellent given time.

(Château Lagrange (St. Julien)) Dark cherry red color; toasty oak and espresso nose; big, plum, cassis and toast palate with good structure; medium finish (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot)

(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) A really attractive, lifted style on the nose here, with a touch of bright cherry and cranberry fruit. It has a crunchy but ripe character that I really admire. The style is firm, elegant and crisply framed, with less depth of texture and substance than some but there is still plenty of material here. There is ripeness and a good defining acidity. Nice style.
