Community Tasting Notes 9

March 30, 2024 - A mild whiff of roses upon opening, which quickly dissipated. This is really a very simple wine - tart cherry juice. I would have guessed a high-altitude, undistinguished Sangiovese if tasted blind. I expected otherwise, obviously.

March 19, 2023 - Light ruby red. Promising nose of roses, mild sous bois. Light red fruits on palate, with ample acidity. But the palate doesn't blossom as the nose does, it has no middle and no finish. This, at 10 years of age, is much simpler than I'd hoped.

March 11, 2023 - This needed every bit of 4 hours of decanting. The last glass at 4 hours (after 8 hours total) was the best. Definitely utilize aggressive aeration if popping this mid-term beauty now.

November 15, 2021 - Young. Tasty, mountain red berry, sharp acidity, and fine tannins. Elegance and lightness. Good potential to improve with age.
My view is that artisanal Oregon Pinot Noir made with stems is best with a decade-plus. This bottle is just in the John Thomas minimum of 8 years past harvest.

November 26, 2020 - Opened for Thanksgiving dinner. Might even be a shade lighter than the Whistling Ridge. Pretty reticent on the nose on opening. There is a slight note on the nose that I can only describe as "chemical" which is somewhat distracting.

Lighter-bodied on the palate, with good acidity. At this point, I prefer the Whistling Ridge to this wine.
