December 5, 2023 - Although this wine was first released in 2016, announcing a stock of 5 toneles, here I am drinking a 2023 bottling which is still marked 1/5. So what was once described as a 20-yr-old sherry is now being called a 25-yr-old sherry. And with at least 4 toneles to go, it will continue to age and be available for years yet, it would appear. I confess I've not had, or not for a very long time, such an aged amontillado - I think about 30 years ago I had a tasting tot of GByass's Amontillado del Duque - and this is quite different from the usual monties I drink. Perhaps my mark is a bit unfair, but I'll present my reasoning.

The back label announces an aroma of old furniture, which isn't a tasting note I've come across before, and doesn't exactly attract. It was a bit assertive on first turning the screwtop and pouring a nip - others have mentioned the alcohol is a bit hot. But it came into balance and drank better on later days. And it does have that furniture polish taste, which indeed isn't entirely pleasant, but, at least on later days, forms a part of a more integrated and interesting whole. But it is concentrated and complex, and if you are interested in that, and not expecting too easy a drink, it is a very involving and interesting experience. But I can't exactly call it nice, which is why I've marked it down.

August 15, 2018 - Quite a tasty sherry, non-sweet - a relief given other choices in Wine Society range - lots of complexity, and oak. Yum.

October 26, 2017 - Quick Financial Consulting (Barra Territorio Era - Madrid): On the palate showed a little alcoholic, unbalanced and very acid.
In spite of that nose is chief here: melted caramel, thedecadent aristocracy of granny's forniture. Lovely and pretentious amontillado aspiring to greatness that destiny deserves for the big ones. It is not the case.

December 28, 2016 - Just unbelievably concentrated, almost to the point where it is hard to drink. But fantastically complex, intense, dry. Like taking an exam. I loved it.

June 24, 2016 - Nuts and sweetness on the nose. The palate has incredible tangy, with tongue tingling intensity. Not at all sweet as the nose would imply, burnt oak flavours, walnuts, a hint of orange zest and a finish that lingers. A quality wine undoubetley but I prefer other styles of amontillado.
