Spectaculaire! 94 pts

September 27, 2020 - Bottle purchased at auction a year or two ago. This had major funk on the nose when first opened. Smoke, burnt rubber, some manure. Lean and closed. I put the cork back in and came back to it the next day. The nose was much improved and the funk was gone. It also put on on a little weight, but remained lighter bodied. Mixed fruits, spice, light earth and leather. Still a little lean. Not bad, but I didn’t love this.

July 11, 2020 - Garnet, medium bodied. A fine nose with cassis, blackberry and tobacco. Fine tannins on the palate, pleasant acidity. Round, long finish. Should last another 5-10 years.

June 21, 2020 - Bought these on pre-arrival and stored in wine facility ever since. First glass was after a 1 hour decant. Fruit was tobacco and a bit of cassis. Fine tannins. Opened up a bit more after 2 and 3 hours, but not a significant change. Drink now and while it should have years left not sure it will improve much.

May 18, 2020 - Bought from auction. Bottle and cork in great shape. Surprisingly at or past it’s peak, color had substantial bricking. Very well balanced, great bouquet, but fruit seems to be fading, tannins mostly resolved. Faded a little in the decanter, too. Could be some bottle variation, perhaps it got cooked at some point, but would drink sooner rather than later. Fellow drinker Tim, who guessed left bank 80s, said he has seen this on a few 2000 Bordeauxs.
