December 2, 2021 - Interesting to compare the 1988 to the 1996 and 2005 side by side. You can see how the level of ripeness and body increases in each decade but the wine retains a certain strictness and classicism. The 1988 is fully mature with tertiary notes and noticeable pyrazines so make sure it goes with food. The 1996 was the winner tonight (the 2005 was corked) with an increased fruit level, yet still some youthful tannins. There is excellent aromatic complexity and length to these wines. Too bad that the prices of this have been pushed up by the Chateau, but the quality is there.

October 17, 2021 - Tasted blind. Dark, brooding, tannic, touch of soy, lots of new oak, very young, closed, and tightly wound. 90 pts. today, much higher score in 20 more years of age. Hold.

September 26, 2021 - 4 pairs of top notch wines; 9/26/2021-9/27/2021 (Tøyen, Oslo): Double decanted 3h+ before dinner.
Nose: Dark, blackberries, black currant, minerals, oak barrel, dried flower stalks and spices.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, also here a dark profile, gravel, smoke/powder smoke, pencil shavings, sous bois, still a bit edgy tannins. The finish is quite understated, but lasts forever, just building with black pepper and graphite.
This is just so grand, but extremely dark and dry, truly a behemoth of a wine.
After another 3 hours in the glass, the fruit starts to shine, almost like the clouds breaking up and streams of light enter. This development leads me to believe this wine is still many years from its zenith.
96-97 the first hour, 98 at the end of the dinner. Probably even higher in a decade.

December 29, 2020 - There's no denying this wine is great, yet It doesn't seem perfect as deemed by some experts to me. I think it is just lacks a little richness that will hopefully benefit the elegant department with time. This is definitely serious and light on its feet, with nuances of cedar intermixed with warm soil, tobacco, and unmistakable graphite. A bit lean to my expectations and though from a different appellation, along the lines of a leoville las cases from 2000 or 2005. Needs lots and lots of time to find out if its a perfect wine! HOLD
