Community Tasting Notes 9

October 27, 2023 - Initial impressions while still on the cold side. Will update.

Edit; over an hour later, uprated to 93 from 91

Beautiful garnet with bubbles on rim. Unmistakably Oz, with eucalyptus and olive under dark fruit - blackcurrant

As it warms, black spice emerges to complement the dark acidity. Long and lingering, blackcurrant leaves as well.

On this showing, several years life remaining.

Best airport lounge wine I’ve had in years. Kudos to KLM

September 1, 2020 - Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

≈45 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then capped; Slight amount of VERY fine sediment noted; Slightly chilled because of warm ambient room temp; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: RIPE wild straws with earthiness coming on, & notes of something I can't quite identify: poss popcorn (sans butter)?

P: LM, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with nice, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it seamlessly transitions into a LONG, BALANCED, VERY slightly bitterswt finish with a spicy tanginess to the innocuous, yet still firming, very, VERY fine tannins. The night's COSTCO Roasted Chx tended to accentuate the bitterness (marginally a problem), but went WELL with the Warm GER Potato Salad side. My VG+/EXC-, trending towards the higher. Drink now & through '23.
// Day 2: N has held reasonably well, the earthiness having come forward a bit. P held *well*, going very nicely with the night's Pk Chops Marsala/Mushrooms. ∑: Upgrading to my EXC-/EXC, & will probably drink through '24. [As of early Jul '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $40].

    Note: Also tasted on 11/19/16 & 6/17/20.

June 17, 2020 - Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

Opened ≈45 prior to 1st taste; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: The darker side of straws, with flowers & plums, + notes of pyrazines?

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which QUITE works itself out by the LONG, balanced, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with an intriguing bitter/swtness to the few, unoffensively firming, very, VERY fine tannins. A zesty, palate-cleansing style that while it went adequately with the night's Grilled Skirt Steak, it was SOMEWHAT better with the Mashed Potatoes side, lending me to believe that it might be better suited for Poultry &/or Pork than Beef? For now & into '22. My VG+/EXC-, trending towards the higher, poss even flirting with EXC *if* paired advantageously.
// Day 2: At least as fragrant as Day 1; LM body, likely drinking even better than on Day 1! Went VERY well with the night's revisited Chile Relleno Casserole (HmMd), Refried Beans, & Mx Rice A Roni!
∑: Upping to my EXC-/EXC (90-93/100, using that paradigm) & should hold through '22 without difficulty. [As of early Jul '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $40].

    Note: 1st tasted on 11/19/16.

January 5, 2020 - Drinking very well. Lovely fruit and palate weight. Fully integrated tannins with a long lingering finish.
