December 15, 2023 - Drank over two nights. A little funk at first, but blew off nicely and provided good, middle of the fairway profile over two nights. Better second night under pump.
May 18, 2023 - In a really nice window. Tannins still have some grip (as you'd expect) but they're nicely integrated and secondary and tertiary flavors are starting to show through. Got the pedigree to last a while longer but beautiful to drink now with 30 minute decant to blow off the initial awkwardness
May 17, 2023 - Really great bottle of Dunn Howell Mt, spectacular fruit and showing very little signs of age with some secondary characteristics but still very youthful. Drink now or hold for ???? Very enjoyable experience right now.
April 30, 2023 - Decanted 3 hours. A dark, complex, concentrated wine with dark fruits, mineral and spice. Very structured and a nice finish.
April 15, 2023 - Dark red color. Plums, blackberries, blueberries, licorice, chocolate, and spice in the nose. Lots of black fruits, black currants, blackberries and plums in the flavor with minerals and spice. A rich, concentrated wine with great structure and complexity, very well balanced, medium to full bodied and a long smooth finish.
March 27, 2023 - Shared with my 2 sibs out in Sedona over some steaks in our wonderful VRBO. Cork was dry & crumbly so I decanted for 3hrs prior to dinner. This superb cabernet w/ signature Dunn density, drive and precision on both the nose and the palate deliver dark raspberry, pencil, cigar box, mineral and spice. A very complete harmonious cab that is Howell Mountain all the way. Very terroir centric! Suave and complex w/ sufficient air. World class with age.
December 23, 2022 - Excellent! Ready to drink. Enjoyed with standing rib roast.
July 20, 2022 - Perfect bottle tonight- much more body, fruit, and tannin all in balance; 13.6% alcohol so somewhat ripe for Dunn. Great nose of black and blue fruit; full bodied, blackberries, tea, a hint of smoke and tar; still mouthwatering after 20+ years, and the tannins are sweet and go on forever… a grand slam.
February 9, 2022 - Very reduced, sulfur notes on opening. Decanted one hour and it opened beautifully. Medium intensity of aroma, cassis, earthy, soil, dried cherry like a Black Forest gateau, leather, cedar, graphite, a hint of herbs de Provence.
Medium-plus body, concentrated dried cherry, blueberry jam, leather, hint of smoke, vanilla oak, silky tannins medium, medium to medium-high acidity, off-dry, medium length on the palate. The wine is in a very good place.
February 5, 2022 - Dense and dark, tart with some irish moss but also a whiff of dusty rug.
