March 12, 2024 - very pronounced black licorice on the nose. dark and brooding, very little sign of age. acidity is medium, tannins are medium, palate of black current, dark cherry with little in the way of any secondary or tertiary notes. finish is medium. Very good drink, but a little uninteresting at this stage. Drink or hold.
January 5, 2024 - Dark, opaque ruby with slight browning. Rich, medium to full body, medium tannins, good acid. Juicy, Red and black ripe cherry, hints of leather in the finish.
August 13, 2023 - Another similar showing as the last bottle- very tasty.
July 27, 2023 - notes consistent with previous. Outstanding wine at the $30-40 price point.
June 25, 2023 - Two night experience. A warmer year and it shows in the bouquet, but pretty balanced, just verging on mature. Night 2 much more expressive.
June 23, 2023 - Still very dark, but showing some brick on the rim. Nose is nicely mature with dark cherry with some herbal notes. Palate is medium bodied, juicy with dry red and black cherry fruit, ripe and well rounded with a dry tannic edge on the finish. Decent but not overly long on the finish. This is very good and a great food wine. Probably needs to be drunk sooner than later.
February 23, 2023 - Drinking quite well!
February 16, 2023 - Drinking well. Still mouth coating, but has good balance with sour cherry fruit and long finish.
January 22, 2023 - Garnet color. Intense and sweet nose, dried fruits, figs, plums, some cocoa, chocolate, tar. Very powerful on the palate. Full body, round tannins and compared to Rancia 12, Fontalloro was fresher, having more acidity.
January 22, 2023 - Sangiovese night for my 37th birthday (My house): Unfortunately I think this one is kind of out of it's peak. Already of a quite garnet color, at the nose dry figs, chocolate, very dark fruits. In the mouth strong tannins (the kind which will never smoothen) and medium acidity made it hard to consider a second glass. Comparing this to the Rancia 2012 I see quite a few similarities.
