April 19, 2024 - Thanks to Andrew for bringing this one along from his cellar…fresh as a daisy, pepper and meaty palate, citron, and with time open dives into a mouth-watering celery seed note. Loads of time ahead

January 25, 2021 - This is nice...there’s a savory edge here, almost a smokiness, that reminds me a bit of a Levet Cote-Rotie. A tiny hint of funkiness in the nose, vivid blackberry and tart plum fruit, mouthwatering acidity...what a fantastic wine this is. I wonder how my remaining bottle will age from here?

May 22, 2020 - Fruit over pepper, some citronella, but more fruit texture first. Getting really good. I’d extend the drinking window to 2030. Really suave right at the cork pull. No astringency. Light tannin, high acid. Super juicy palate.

August 3, 2019 - Pretty much consistent with previous notes but it has taken on a more savory and meaty side making it even more Syrah-like. Delicious stuff!

October 1, 2017 - Bright red fruit, floral notes and soil base. Drinking its best after 1 hour open.

March 29, 2017 - Almost opaque purple. Wintergreen, herbs, and a hint of violets. Full bodied, black fruit and pepper. Very good and a dead ringer for northern Rhone Syrah, which is what leaped to mind when I was served this blind.

March 16, 2017 - DArker in color than other Mencia's I've had. Deep ruby on the edge to a deep garnet in the center. The nose has strong aromas of alcohol with some hints of leather and dried fruit. The fruit is much more pronounced flavor sour cherry and cranberry but the acidity is a little overpowering for an every day kind of wine. I suspect it would pair well with foods though.

September 25, 2016 - Opened with a vinous nose, but evolved into a syrah-like plum-smoke-pepper character. Very enjoyable.

April 17, 2016 - Tulips, blueberry yoghurt and oak on the nose, quite big and fiery and very untamed as these mencia wines sometimes are in youth. Well made, very fresh and linear on the palate, not uninteresting, but perhaps just a little off balance at this stage, and quite odd. Not as super-yummy as the 2012 I tasted last year.

I bought two other wines from same producer but will wait and see a few years most likely.
