April 19, 2019 - The acidity from the Lemon and balsamic vinegar sauce in my pasta caprese with Grilled Lemon Chicken muted this somewhat but held up nicely and drinking well and tasted great after dinner. Not much length on the finish.

April 4, 2019 - Nobody complained about this with a hearty pasta dish with short rib and sausage ragu. Maybe a bit rounder and fleshier that it would be for a perfect red sauce pairing, but it worked well and didn't make a fuss. A half glass remaining after dinner drank well too.

March 14, 2019 - This has been opened for an hour and a half. Initially poured very brown in color, but seems to have lightened up a bit in the glass. The aromas begin with a dusty book, lots of plum skin, or perhaps old dried grape skins. Seems like you peeled some grapes and they've been sitting on your counter for a bit (what... no one does that?). A little bit of spiced pepper, graphite, and a funky, aged sweet fruit component that's nice and interesting. The palate initially attacks with a lot of graphite, some of that old book, but there's a solid streak of acidity running through the whole of the palate. You can hold this in the mouth for a long time, so it's balanced nicely. This acid carries into the finish where it also lingers for a long time. Definitely still some dusty, gritty older tannins, and some of that soft plummy fruit. This is one of those wines where the structure is going to out live the fruit as there's tons of acid and tannin but there's isn't too much fruit left to keep it going for much longer. I like where it's at right now; I like where it has evolved to; you can't short circuit this experience as it simply takes this kind of time to get here... but I do suspect it would have been a little better ~5 years ago. Still very enjoyable today.

March 12, 2019 - Dark in color - an attractive, semi-opaque crimson, lightening right at the edge. Subtle aromas of dark berries, earth and a hint spice on the nose. Medium-to-full bodied, yet quite "New World" in style. There's plenty of ripe, juicy cherry, plum and dark currant fruit character here, along with what seems like a rather mild acidity for a Chianti. Shows good depth on the front-palate, but then tails off a bit into a slightly hollow mid-palate. Finishes with good length though, showing pretty notes of spice and mineral, along with drying tannins. Becomes outstanding when paired with the right food - in our case, Kerry's Spaghetti Bolognese.

February 8, 2019 - Dark, ripe, richer style Chianti, a little oaky but with nice balance, good acidity and a softish finish. Pretty tasty for $14. Will drink the other two bottles sooner than later.
