May 20, 2021 - Wow! What a difference a couple more years of age has made to this (sadly my last bottle)!

Given previous experience I gave this an 8-hour decant. The colour has just started to gain a slight brickred tone. The nose has warm notes of spices and acetone (it reminds me of Chateau Musar in that respect), and the palate now has a smooth round feel: black and dark red fruits with a spicy edge to it, just a little acidity to balance them and finishing with light smooth tannins coating the mouth.

In some sense this is now a somewhat lighter wine than it was a couple of years ago - it would pair quite widely and is now very accessible. Sadly this is a very limited production so it's rather hard to find more. Do so if you can!

July 28, 2019 - Reporting back as promised...

I drank the first couple of glasses of this after about a 12 hour decant. And I found it a bit smoother, the fruit a little more to the fore, but still moderate+ acidity.

After 36 hours in the decanter it is better again: dark fruit and a little heat on the nose; still moderate+ acidity on the palate; moderate, smooth tannins.

This is clearly a food wine, and I'm enjoying it with various spanish charcuterie and some nice French cheeses.

Maybe there is more to come from this with more age, but if you like robust, slightly acidic, dark fruit, Italian reds then this will probably appeal now. I will hide my remaining bottle away at the back of my fridge and maybe come back to it in a year or two.

March 24, 2019 - I decanted this at short notice and drank from 1 - 3 hours later.

I fear that I didn't give this wine enough air: it was evolving throughout the evening. It has lots of dark fruit, a little vegetal, austere, but moderate+ acidity and some fine tannins. I feel the balance isn't quite right - it's some way from "smooth" overall; a bit rough around the edges.

I'll put this at 88 for now: towards the top end of very good. But I have a second bottle which I will open far more in advance and report back.

March 6, 2017 - There's an impressive depth and intensity to this wine, which appears much more youthful than nine years of age. Deep ruby red, with some purple hues. The nose is clean, with ripe red fruit, black fruit, and sweet baking spices. The acidity, tannins and alcohol are medium to medium (+). It is drinking well now but is really in its infancy. Made with grapes that have undergone appassimento, it is then aged for 30 months in oak casks and barriques. It is then bottle aged for at least a year prior to release.
