Community Tasting Notes 7

August 9, 2020 - I came across a stray bottle of this and remembered hat I'd vaguely liked it a few years ago (four I see.) At that time I gave it an 89, having enjoyed it but finding it less than a wow. So I opened it without too much expectation. Tonight it's impressing me a lot more, though whether it's the extra age or the food complementing it (Orkney haddock wrapped in Parma ham) I'm not sure. Quite an assertive nose of lees, oak and something like Lemon Barley Water. An oaky, lemony palate, very dry, and fairly long. Quite austere by itself, but with the fish it's delightful. Maybe the salinity of the wine and the saltiness of the ham are a good match. From vineyards planted in 1902, according to the importer's website; the same source says that 2014 was the first time Vieille Voye was bottled as a single vineyard wine. I hope I find another stray bottle... Cork, 12.5%. Bottle no 0934.

June 9, 2019 - Pear, citrus and fig nose, very pale gold. Same on the palate with a dry finish. Not oaky. Tasty but undistinguished.

November 12, 2018 - Pale gold in the glass with shy nose of apple and a hint of citrus. On the palate lime and apple are most prominent with a tart minerality. There’s a honey note as well, which accompanies a nice streak of acidity through a medium finish.

November 10, 2018 - Nearly clear color. Pear and peach on the nose. Sour apple lemongrass and tetragon. Crystalline, racy acid. Used in and with asparagus risotto to great effect.

December 25, 2017 - brilliant gold, green apple, limp, dry crisp
