March 13, 2022 - This was hostile and sour when decanted and poured for a taste. Now it’s maybe 2 hours later and it’s very nice and still showing the vintage but not in an unpleasant way. Matt nails it right away as 88. Bricked with a ruby core. Gentle tobacco-herbal, some forest floor. Gentle fruit and spices. Light and elegant. High-tones, red, acidic with some tightness. Palate is mature and very pretty - (Matt says cherry cough syrup). Soft fruit, savory, a touch sour, game, dried meat, soy. Carob? Clear and precise finish. Tart red fruits and tobacco. This improved a lot with air, very classic now and the best that 88 has to offer. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

December 19, 2018 - Very terrior and Bonne like. More on the rustic side but very pleasurable. Not a great BM but certainly a fun one!

May 19, 2017 - Chambolle-Musigny for Dummies: Absolutely stunning wine! Blind tasting fairly justifies the status of this Grand Cru especially when placed against such reputable 1er Crus. By far more multidimensional wine. Very mellow, round. At its peak with tertiary veggy aromas. So much depth in every aroma and flavour. Gorgeous wine!

March 11, 2017 - A fun quartet of 88's. DRC Richebourg, Leroy Richebourg, Leroy RSV, and Vogue Bonnes Mares. My order, and pretty much unanimous, was Vogue BM, Leroy Rich, Leroy RSV, and DRC Rich. The Vogue was served blind, and I thought it had the youthful sense of a 93. Delicious and striking. Neither of the Leroy's screamed Leroy, which in the context of drinking 88's was fine. The Richebourg was richer and more complete. The DRC Richebourg was the weak link here. Bottle, wine, not sure. Always fun to taste 88's and even more fun in a group.

(Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares) Bricking medium dark red color with pale meniscus; oak, red fruit, baked cherry nose; oak, warm cherry, rhubarb, tart cherry palate; medium finish 92+ pts. (did not show nearly as well as the bottle I had late last year)

(Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares) Medium, slightly bricked red color with pale meniscus; lime, tart raspberry, cigar box nose; good tart cherry, red fruit, mineral palate with good grip; medium-plus finish 94+ pts. (most youthful of our flight of '88 Grand Crus)

Burgundy-Report

(Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes-Mares) Medium-plus core of ruby-red that shows only a little fading. The nose is very-much a 1993-style expression of fruit with a more mineral, graphitic edge and becomes a little meaty with aeration. Lovely texture, still very fruit-driven and also quite earthy. The balance and remaining structure suggest that many years of enjoyment lie ahead for this wine.
