Community Tasting Notes 5

October 26, 2008 - Matt Kramer's New California Wine reports that this vintage "has the questionable distinction of having reported the lowest yield I've ever heard of in California: one-quarter ton per acre." Unfortunately, it doesn't lead to much depth here. The wine starts out with an interesting scent of pepper and cigar box that the palate never really matches, then the scent fades too. Dark brick color and fairly claret-like in its restraint, but there's just not much here to hold my interest.

December 13, 2007 - Allred brought this to the Tlily offline this week. Much better bottle than the one opened at Otis' CDP earlier this year. A mushroomy compost nose. Medium bodied with integrated tannins. Round texture with earthy notes. Deep with good complexity. 92-93 points.

December 10, 2007 - Decanted briefly for sediment. A couple of hours later, this was showing an herbal, minty, pine-like aroma. I thought it may have been very mildly corked, but it didn't taste that way, with spice and plum flavors and a long minty finish. 90-92 pts.

August 13, 2007 - This was contributed to Otis' CDP by Allred. I've had 6 different vintages of Kathryn Kennedy's Estate Cabs and this has been the lowest scoring of any of them. There was talk at this event that the bottle might be corked. A few people suspected it was slightly off while others did not detect any TCA. I am not very susceptable to TCA and therefore did not notice it. However, it very well could have detracted from how this wine could show by dulling the overall profile of the wine. This wine showed some bricking. Still had a tannic backbone to go with a dry texture. Red berry and some meatiness. I thought this was still a fine wine. 89-90 points.

    August 11, 2007 - Corked, what a shame.
