November 18, 2016 - Quick note. Surprisingly youthful at first. Quite firm and searing acidity. Bit shy on the nose, with mostly yellow fruits. After 30-40 minutes it broadens out showing more of the maturity in the bottle as well as the classic PR notes. Quite yeasty, and eventually sherry & funky notes come into play. What strikes me though is how well the sweetish fruit is holding up. Right now I like the 1986 bdb better. Will leave my remaining bottle to around 2020(+) I think to see if there is more upside to catch. 92-93 p for now.

August 15, 2015 - Nice subtle nose with ripe apples, nuts, and brioche.
Smooth ripe mouth feel with good concentration and great bubbles.
Very well balanced. Very long finish with acid and minerals.
Pol Roger in roaring form, and 1988 is once again a killer. Ripe, but can withstand many years lengthwise

April 30, 2013 - Klar stågul. Mild nese, noe stein, sitrus og svakt hint av honning. Svakt støvete. Svakt så svakt hint av sherry.
Frisk og ungdommelig frukt i munnen med høy, gjennomgripende syre. Noe grov mousse. Viser mer modning i munnen enn på nese. God intensitet. Lett kremet munnfølelse. Fin lengde. Overraskende frisk for alderen.

January 1, 2009 - A Champagne at its peak. Beautiful golden color, lively and fine bubbles, very toasty nose with mushrooms, light apple notes. Med body, a perfect balance between acidity, fruit and tertiary aromatics.
    Very fine.

March 13, 2008 - This wine has a long life ahead of it, but for me it is at its peak. Still surprisingly vibrant mousse. Floral nose with a dried citrus note - very rich with a certain dry austerity. Almonds maybe overlaid on mature chardonnay, with a sherry nutty note. If there is a vintage that produced wines that can rival the scale of the 1996's, 1988 is it for me. This wine may just be a touch better than the 1996 Blanc de Chardonnay, and that is saying a lot. This is a champagne that will easily cut through any youngish champagne you put on your table, and perhaps any wine you put on your table.

November 1, 2003 - Tasting. Elegant and well balanced. The classic lean start of many good 1988s, just ends with a short, moderate finish.
