June 13, 2018 - It was bold and a little bit overpowering right out of the bottle but after a couple of sips seemed to mellow a bit. Had with pizza and we liked it.

April 22, 2017 - WSET Diploma blinds Practice (SF): $24

    (blind)
Clear, medium plus ruby color, with tears.
    Nose is clean, medium-minus intensity.
    - Dark fruit: ripe and overripe blackberry, raisin, slight blackcurrant.
    - Earth: damp soil, slight dog fur.
    - Herbal: green tea, slight indistinct vegetal notes (not necessarily pyrazines... I'm not sure)
    - Secondaries: Cinnamon and wood (clear oak aging)
    Palate:
    - dry
    - full-bodied
    - M+ alcohol (feels 13.5% - actually 14.1%)
    - M+ acid
    - M+ tannins (grippy and chewy)
    - M+ flavor intensity
    - M finish - moderate complexity
Dark fruit again - black plum and hints of blackcurrant.

Final conclusion: France > Bordeaux > Medoc Commune-level AOC.

This is a good commune-level Bordeaux AOC, perhaps a Saint-Estephe due to the aggressive structure. The degree of oak and fruit integration falls short of a classified growth, as does the depth of black fruit and length.

Actual: Columbia Valley. This is super old-world in style, with even some Brett! I'm surprised.

February 25, 2017 - I was looking for a WA Merlot as its been ages since I have had one, was worried that anything under $30 would be OTAF (Oaked To All Fxck), happily, this fit the bill perfectly. I did give this some pretty good air, 4 hrs or so, delightful plummy nose and well represented on the palate, a strong note of wintergreen, and a mild black olive note on the finish. I'm guessing a small amount of new wood was used, nothing vanilla or the like, but a slight glossiness on the palate that was most welcome. Excellent buy at $21 at Total WIne
