February 19, 2019 - Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #026; Bordeaux 2005 (by DJ): In the bouquet dark berries like blackberries, plums and some chocolate. On the palate red berries, cassis, green and some unripe impressions and fresh acidity. Lacks some refinement to belong to the great wines.

January 15, 2019 - 30 minute decant. A bit of sediment in the bottle at this age. Dusty nose with a little bit of empty pencil box. Nose leaves a little to be desired. On the palate we have dark fruit and earth. Short finish, almost gone before it starts. Nothing astonishing, but a fine weeknight drinker. This was my last bottle but I would happily buy another 6 to drink over the next few years, if the price was right.

November 30, 2018 - Violets and plums are discernible on the somewhat shy nose, some pencil, box
Still dark purple with garnet rim, no brick color
Fruit is not terribly forward, dry tannins cover it up a bit
    Plums and cedar
I am certainly enjoying it and find it very pleasant for a Yuletide weekend quaff

(Chateau Cantemerle Haut-Médoc) Rather sweet and warm character to the fruit here, with a roasted herb note to it as well. A touch baked and raisiny, with little nuances of balsamic. The palate has a stony quality to it, it has some flesh but is certainly not generous, and there is a nice core of ripe tannins. The fruit quality here is a little chalky, although still with that very warm feel to it. Nice substance though, and so I will remain optimistic.

(Château Cantemerle) Dark red violet color; cedar and herbal nose; tight, if not pinched, tart cassis palate, a little disjointed; short medium finish (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot)

(Chateau Cantemerle Haut-Médoc) CS 50%, M 40%, CF 5%, PV 5%. This wine has a vibrant hue, although there isn't the intensity displayed by many of the other wines. There is a spicy, meaty nose, showing attractive black fruits with a fresh, lifted style. Rather gentle on the palate, rounded, soft and approachable. This doesn't have the complex interest to be found elsewhere, and it has less depth than I would like. It's also a little short. But it will make very acceptable short-term drinking one day.
