October 28, 2019 - Weekly tasting group RWP #350; Bolgheri vs Bordeaux (@ CvR): Very creamy and lactic bouquet with beautiful herbs and spices. On the palate the same creaminess, butter, sweet cherries, dark berries, some toast and leather. Lush, harmonious and very pleasurable wine with good acidity and still youthful, round tannin. 91 - 92

October 26, 2019 - Académie des Cinquante 64th Annual Dinner (Sofitel The Grand, Amsterdam, NL): A perfect bottle, in great shape. Pure and intense, pepper and warm spices, womderfully fragrant, elegant and flowing, gentle grip from the tannins, slightly light on the finish, good length. Fully mature, another 5-10 years in it, but Du Tertre is never a long distance runner.

October 4, 2019 - Nose was more Saint Julien than Margaux, with dark fruit, cedar, pencil, and game. Youthful texture including some unresolved tannins, but it has softened a bit over the years. I can tell why some tasters taste green, but I would call that note cedar verging on pine. No florals surprisingly. The palate has plum, cassis, animal must, and forest. It seems restrained, and there could be latent mushroom, meat, and spice underneath, but those haven’t really emerged. Maybe in 5 more years.

September 10, 2019 - finally maturing to become a quite interesting wine, with the oak reciding. Too bad I have only two bottles left.

September 8, 2019 - Coravin for the first 2-3 nights, then opened the bottle a few nights in.
Tight the whole time, I don't think this is ready. Really good core of fruit, no hard edges, but I don't think it's giving all it has. Probably worth revisiting in another 3- 5 years. Perhaps would go well now with a meaty dish and if given time in the glass to open.

(Chateau du Tertre Margaux) This has a beautiful nose, with rather open, dense, cherry fruit accompanied by a little toffee oak and also a slightly feral character which resembles that found in the Giscours a little. A cool style on the palate, pure and aromatic, with raspberry fruit swirled with a touch of cream and vanilla. This has very attractive character, and finishes very well indeed. There is very good potential here.

(Chateau du Tertre Margaux) CS 40%, M 30%, CF 25%, PV 5%. A good, dense colour. Wood-spice nose, with blackberry crumble fruit and some unresolved oak at present. Finely balanced on the palate, but showing a sweet, creamy, plump texture. A fine presence of supple tannins underpins the palate, which is rounded out with a sweet caramel finish. A rich style, acidity correct, just peeking out from beneath the fruit. Exuberant but fresh and well poised. Nice length. Very good indeed.
