January 26, 2019 - Wine seems to be at peak or just looking over it. Wine had great earthiness. floral notes but lacked a little on the mid palate. Finish was decent but I didn't think this would be over the peak yet

December 31, 2018 - Very good, at maturity, maybe a bit past. Very pleasant and balanced.

December 1, 2018 - Seems already beyond the top, slightly less powerful than expected (either closed between seconday and tertiary phase, or already slightly too late).

    August 11, 2018 - Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 4 *shared* reds] from 08/10/18 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Gravel & sand soils with 65% C.S, 25% Merlot, and 5% ea C.F. & Petit Verdot

N: Coffee (credit to budosyu for helping me ID that one) & earth; VERY attractive!

P: Med body; NICE frt met by puckerish astringency which slowly, fairly seamlessly transitions into a LONG, very, VERY slightly puckerish finish with hints of refined swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins. NEEDS through '20, but DESERVES 2 or 3 yrs beyond that, poss making its 25th? My EXC-/EXC, poss more... eventually. [Just some of the reviews, others being on wine-searcher's "Tasting Notes" pg: 92 pts WA, 91-93 WE, 90 RJonWine, and 15.5, 16, & 14.5/20 Jancis Robinson.] [This vendor's $99.95 is *uncharacteristically* at LEAST $10 > the highest of wine-searcher's 3 current postings.]

(Château Rauzan-Gassies) Dark red violet color; berry and caramel nose; plush plum and red fruit with menthol note, could use more acidity though; medium finish

(Chateau Rauzan-Gassies Margaux) There is very dark fruit here, showing a trace of vanilla, although it is not as open or expressive as some. The palate has a soft style, broad and although it certainly has a presence on the palate it lacks direction or focus. Nevertheless it has appropriate grip showing on the finish, and it is certainly a good effort for the estate. Decent wine.
