July 23, 2020 - hints of graphite and cherry on the nose, balanced and round, the palate shows dried cherry, leather, tobacco and stone, excellent structure, plush texture, beautiful after a couple of hours in the decanter, just effortless with lovely lift, going to match with hamburger steak

July 19, 2020 - This is one of five 2005 Bordeaux's I have had from my cellar over the last 10 days. Chevalier, along with Leoville Barton and Pontet Cadet were outstanding - classic Bordeaux that is ready to enjoy.

Leoville Poyferre was very good, but a hot finish kept it from being outstanding.

The final wine Pavie-Macquin was totally undrinkable (I tried two bottles in one night with the same outcome). Stewed, cooked and porty - a fault somewhere at the winery or in transit, but not, I expect from storage at Vintages or my 57 degree cellar as, although I have had corked wines from my cellar, not cooked or stewed wines, which strongly suggests that the storage and handling of wine at Vintages was not the cause.

Previous 2005's tried a while ago were Branaire-Ducru and Malescot St-Exupery which were both excellent. Still have not cracked a bottle of the 2005 Trotanoy and I look forward to that in 4 or 5 years!

    A great vintage in Bordeaux.

June 6, 2020 - I like drinking this wine without a decant. Fresh and linear at the start building to more red fruit half way the bottle and darker fruit and earthy notes towards the bottom of the bottle.

April 29, 2020 - Still young but is easily enjoyed anyways. Lovely somewhat muted fruit and also approachable tannins. Deep red color and medium aftertaste. Evident that this is only just beginning its "window of opportunity"

(Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan) A more reserved style, more dusty, but still ripe. Very pure, polished fruit. Elegant, raspberries and other red fruits. Rich though, a touch smoky too. Very full substance on entry, but pure and polished, very linear. Finely rounded and harmonious, with really fine-grained tannins and lovely, intense central fruit. Very complete. Impressive wine.

(Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan) Exuberant fruit on the nose here, with a nutty edge. The palate follows on nicely from this unassuming start, with a layer of pure, rather crunchy, blackcurrant and cranberry fruit which is very well framed, very precise and complete. The fruit and texture cover very nicely the firm, tannic backbone and the grip of ripe tannins only becomes apparent at the end. This has lovely potential.
