November 10, 2018 - My first impression of this wine was of how bright the flavors are. The dark cherry and earth show up a little later, but both are full and impressive. It does have the normal pinot acidity, went great with salmon, and is well balanced and pleasantly layered. There is a purity to the light cherry color and a earthiness to the nose. Shea is always a top vineyard, and lets face it, Ken knows his stuff.
October 26, 2018 - Dark fruit, raspberry some earth. A lot of acid that I think needs a little more time in the bottle. Try again in a few years.
September 19, 2018 - Nice dark ruby color. Spicy, vivid black cherry nose. Big black fruit flavors upfront with a smokey finish.
August 24, 2018 - Velvety. Vanilla and cherry. Soft tanins.
Much better after 2 hrs.
January 10, 2018 - Ken Wright Tasting (Sunfish Cellars): Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. This is just big and dark. It needs time. It is not completely unenjoyable. It is difficult to assess at this stage.
November 29, 2017 - Some fresh cut cedar, earthy notes and spiced red fruit on the nose. A lovely mouth coating palate, with fine tannins. Initial entry is dark slightly cooked fruit or licorice, with mid palate being brighter and red, highlighted by cherry and strawberry towards the finish. Nicely balanced but some more acidity would have made it perfect for me. After writing all of that, and tasting again, quite interestingly, this paired amazingly with my side dish at dinner, which gave the wine even more structure and a lovely bite on palate and finish. The side dish was warmed quinoa mixed with spinach, corn and feta. What a match.
