October 26, 2020 - A solid bargain. Stoney, raspberry and blackberry. Drinking well but I don’t think it is done yet.

December 24, 2019 - N: FRAGRANTLY ripe cherries (probably blk) with notes of pyrazines, but may be somewhat lacking in endurance

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which slowly evolves into a LONG, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with an intriguing bitter/swtness to the firming, dusty tannins. Approachable with food (hearty fare BEST), this could still use another 12, poss 18, mos, then drinking into '25? 13.5% ABV; My VG+, poss higher with the right entree, &/or 1-2 yrs cellaring? 93 pts WE (8/1/15) @ $15, & their #4/Top 100 "Best Buys" for '15. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage].

Note: Also tasted on 10/6/16 & 5/31/19, & IF I have bothered to review the latter, I'd have at LEAST briefly decanted as this throws QUITE a bit of sediment. :(

May 31, 2019 - 80 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed; Throws considerable sediment; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: Rasps with nots of choc, poss undertones of leather, earth, & minerals

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with nice, almost swtish frt met by a puckerish astringency which evolves into a LONG, bitter/swt (60:40) finish which only ULT becomes reasonably pleasant. // Day 2: IF any oxygenation, it was overwhelmed by the jump in frt intensity. Plus, it went WELL with COSTCO's IT Sausages & Spinach Stuffed Ravioli in Marinara Sauce, a family staple that has proven problematic with at least some previous reds. ∑: My EXC-/EXC, *very* arguably the higher based upon the QPR when purchased "back in the day". [Was it $7.99 @ COSTCO?] However, I'm thinking it likely still NEEDS cellaring until '21, then drinking through '24? 13.5% ABV; 93 pts WE (8/1/15) @ $15, & their #4/Top 100 "Best Buys" for '15.

January 15, 2017 - I love Tannat, and have had some great experiences with inexpensive Madirans that aged beautifully. So maybe this one's still a bit too young. Gave it plenty of air and served with slow braised lamb shanks, figuring that would take the edge off - a nice theory and all, but it didn't quite work out that way. The wine is still quite tannic, and that just totally swamps out the fruit, which hasn't really emerged at all. I guess this needs to sit another few years before I open another one.

    October 6, 2016 - Marangoni Effect noticeable

N: Toast, poss earth, above cherries when 1st popped 'n poured

P: MF Body; Puckery tannins dominate fairly soon after entry, making it difficult to evaluate fairly. The N & very front palate ARE promising, however. MUST have food or a lots of air @ this juncture.

Day 2 N: Has held; Now noting some pyrazines as well

Day 2 P: Puckery aspect of tannins takes longer to kick in, though the astringency is still there. Nonetheless, "workable" with food in an undeveloped sense.
