July 11, 2020 - On Lopez. Dark ruby. Served too cold but as the wine warmed up it released scents of damp cellar, floral notes, raspberry, earth. Fresh and concentrated on the palate with layers of black raspberry, Bing cherry, iodine, tea leaves, and fine stone. Brilliantly acidic, balancing firm but smoothed tannin. Longer finish of dark fruit and bits of iron. Just as impressive as the bottle consumed 3 months ago.

April 26, 2020 - First sampling of this since purchase 13 years ago. Darker ruby. Nose of raspberry, brambly soil, violets, soothing blue fruits. A core of beautifully ripe but mature black cherry fruit girded by a fine-grained array of savory soil and iron on the palate. Freshening acidity and moderated tannin leading to a long finish of deepening black raspberry fruit, satin, spice, and iron particles. Exceedingly satisfying, a great showing.

April 3, 2020 - Deep ruby, exceptional nose of bright berries and not quite mint herb, no tinge of age. Instantaneous Beaux Freres bottling spritz on the tongue, bright fruit with relaxed acid, nice balance of fruit filling mid range palate. If not for my distaste personal stem and leaf I would rate much higher. (Equivalent dislike of cheap Burgundy unripe fruit.)

Self testing for Wuhan aka CNN Flu by opening a bottle from my cellar each day - SMELL TEST!

March 13, 2020 - Covid-19 Intro/Retro (Chez Hughes): Blind. A dead ringer for Burgundy with whole cluster. Forward, attractive, intense nose of stemmy, spice black cherry with earth and clay notes. The palate has moderately concentrated red and black cherry with a serious stem signature. Most were in the old world. Lots of guesses for Gevrey or Dujac. Strong showing.

    July 21, 2019 - From a 1.5 liter
drank slightly chilled on a very Hot Eastern Shore evening with hard shell crabs, a very nice food pairing
the wine showed beautifully soft and drinkable
    strawberry and raspberry, cherries
deep full flavor yet light on the palate
