June 4, 2019 - The complexity and beauty are still there but I felt stronger diesel tones than last year, confirming my impression that these are already just-past best if you're in it for the fruit ... but if you are willing to push the complexity and especially if you are planning to drink it on its own, it could get even more interesting.

January 23, 2019 - Didn't take any notes but was impressed by this. While initially opening a bit tart and angular as I find that Descombes cru wines often do, it mellowed out but remained structurally very interesting, with cool, red-blue fruit, high acidity and a velvety feel I associate with good Gamay. As is also often the case with Descombes, it felt young and Descombes does seem to mature extremely slowly. I think the current CT consensus of "drink at the lastest 2022" is conservative, but I haven't myself tried any Descombes older than 8 years so I wouldn't know for sure.

November 8, 2018 - Beaujolais Bash (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): For me the top wine of importer Farm Wines' superb lineup tonight. Towering above tonight’s other ~20 Beaujolais in terms of complexity, this opens with scents of prime rib, mushrooms, roses, citrus, and muddled berries and then vacillates excitingly on the palate, vibrating its drive to a sweet spot where breath stops for just a second ... and then gently cushions. Drink now but high potential for curious souls willing to trade a bird in hand.

May 27, 2017 - Great fruit, fresh green herbs, lots of stones, great minerality. Generous and charming with orange-like acidity. Highly drinkable but will benefit from a year or two in the cellar.

December 23, 2016 - Bright red fruit with flowers and some spicy notes. Intense flavors and high acidity. Very good today, but with even more promise for the future. One of my personal reference wines in Beaujolais.
