March 31, 2024 - Blackberry Farm Cheese and Wine tasting (The lovely East Tennessee mountains): Wine and cheese tasting in the cellar @ Blackberry Farm. Poured into glass 90 minutes before I tasted it. Was good but expected this to be WOTN based on producer, vintage and my love of Barolos and it just got it's butt whipped by the CDP before it. Maybe it didn't get enough air? Regardless, this was a decent pairing with Italian sheep's milk cheese. Brad - heavypourwine.com

November 11, 2023 - Flight 1 with Canonical. I came in expecting more from this wine but against more showy barolos, this was in the backseat most of the time. More tamed than the Canonic. Floral, but drier and autumnal. But here you pick out the oak, and it does stand out. Doesn’t lose any of that cherry liquor flavour despite the obvious elegance, loads of sweet red fruits. Tannins are there but less the power. Ethereal and restrained. On any other day I’d probably liked this more..

September 11, 2023 - Decanted for 60 min. To be honest a Big low a completely decent wine just like some cheap shit from Piemonte, if this is so superior to Antonio Galloni and others, I just don’t get it a very ordinary and not worth the hyped price, I’m very dissapointed, my only and last never going back.

September 9, 2023 - TCA marred this one. I’ve had this vintage many times through its first 10y and it is always fresh and dense but this this was thin and dull and the cork taint never blew off.

February 2, 2023 - La Festa del Barolo: Rare Wine Dinner - Bartolo Mascarello (Legacy Records): I’m not sure I’m totally sold on 2013 despite a lot of love from others on it. It is much more austere in style. Lighter bodied. Missing some of that depth and power that I like in the ‘16 and the ‘08 (and the ‘10).

    January 2, 2023 - 3 hour decant

This is definitely young but doesn't feel like infanticide.

The nose is intoxicating with strong rose petals, dark red and black fruit, minerals, black and green ties, and spice. Pixelated palate with medium+ body, great structure, and length, attractive depth and super finish.

So delicious today but in 5 years+ will be even better. If I had many of these bottles, I wouldn't hesitate to try one with a long decant. Singing.

August 23, 2022 - The '13 Bartolo was super impressive again, showing similar to my note from 2020. This is a dark-fruited, spicy vintage of Bartolo (as opposed to some more red-fruit dominant vintages like 2014 or 2016), and a powerful wine but showing great finesse.

The nose was nicely perfumed with dark red cherry and dark red plum fruits, red floral aromas and a hint of violets, licorice, sweet spices, and a touch of orange peel. On the palate, the wine had a similar dark red, cherry and plum fruit profile along with licorice and candied dark floral tones. Dark floral tones, dark red fruit, and sweet spices lingered on the long finish. The wine was medium in body with medium to high acidity, with very smooth tannins, drinking with ease.
