February 12, 2024 - At peak. Drink now
May 15, 2023 - Still nice at opening (see my previous notes). After 3 hours of air, this starts showing signs of oxidation. Drink now
June 28, 2022 - I tried this 2011 vintage one day after i had the 2009 yesterday. Surprisingly close to yesterday’s experience - i would say the barrel is more dominant - but the same spice and spicy feeling…
Buon finale.
August 6, 2019 - Grilled impressions, black fruits, sultry, firm, a lot of structure, spices, lovely acids persisting in the aftertaste
June 24, 2019 - Dark fruit, herbs, burnt notes, slightly sultry, structure
June 4, 2019 - Nice syrah with more power than an northern rhone; but still old world in style
March 24, 2019 - Marasca polposa, ribes nero, spezie, tostato e erbe aromatiche. Naso molto maturo e di notevole intensità. Al palato struttura che chiama un piatto importante, tannino che lotta, solo parzialmente aiutato da un’acidita un po’ sotto traccia. Buon finale.
June 11, 2018 - Blackberry, black pepper and some flesh and blood. Quite northern Rhone in style (not the aussie shiraz style). Sufficient freshness and acidity, even for a warm vintage as 2011. Good now and can still go a few more years.
November 13, 2017 - The wine shows a clear, medium deep, ruby red colour. On the nose there is clear blackberry fruit with a bit of spiciness of black pepper. There is a light animal/barnyard smell in combination with a hint of smoked cedarwood coming from oak ageing, which is pleasant and clearly not overpowering. It separates the wine from its fruit giving it more depth and balance. Unmistakably an old world syrah. On the palate the wine is dry, with med. acidity, med.+ body and med.+ tannins. The wine finishes with a medium length. On the palate flavours remain in accordance with the nose, although with a more pronounced black pepper aftertaste. This is a great syrah from Italy and QPR is good at 21 euros. This wine can be enjoyed now or within 5-7 years.
