June 2, 2018 - Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago - Burgs, old Bordeauxs, Cult Cabs and SQN (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Fully mature nose displaying subtle warm red fruit, a hint of eucalyptus, cedar, leather, mushroom and earth. Fully integrated palate, subtle and elegant, medium acidity, fully resolved tannins and a medium long subtle red fruit driven finish. Beautiful old claret.

June 2, 2018 - Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): In 53/62/82/86 vertical. Mushroom and earth slightly more pronounced than mature black plum and cherry. Clean and elegant with a bit of cigarbox and other charming hints. Open 30 minutes before serving. Best when first poured, then much less interesting 30 minutes later. Exceeded expectations.

April 17, 2018 - A wispy, more ephemeral than ethereal nose, all suggestions of redcurrant and cherry with little touches of cedar. But ultimately, there's not much left on either the nose or the palate. Granted, from half bottle with a very high shoulder fill, but how much more lively are larger formats? A weak showing for 62 and for Lafite, though not too poor a wine all around.

April 16, 2018 - From half bottle. If you opened this bottle blind you would enjoy it thoroughly. However- if you opened it knowing it was a Lafite from a better than average vintage year you would have been pretty disappointed. A subtle win, barley holding onto its structure. Slight floral, violet nose. Typical cedar notes- but lacks complexity and vibrancy.

October 6, 2017 - At the Lafite Vertical Dinner, Amuse Bouche Hong Kong - Served from Magnum, which I'm convinced always adds another level. A very pleasant sweetness, similar to the 1966 but the 1962 seems to carry it better . Good structure and length for a wine of this age. Lafite did well this vintage.
