February 8, 2020 - Dinner with Framily (Claudia, Chicago): Courtesy of the TLVs. Pale yellow with a lingering mousse and medium bead. Cashew, roasted apple and vanilla cream aromas. For being just a couple of years younger than the Billecart it is much brighter. Orchard fruit dominates the palate; nice creamy texture. A very nice match with many of the items in the Bento Box course.

February 8, 2020 - Opened at dinner at Claudia. Notes of nuts and apple, but lacked the brioche notes from prior bottles that I so enjoy. This was still lively with nice mousse and fine bead, but lacking just a bit compared to prior bottles.

January 1, 2020 - Had the Krug 1995 and 1998 together. To start with the 1995 was the better, with broad nose and creamy fat texture, but after 1 hour the 1998 blossomed and was a bit more complex. But they are very similar in style at this point. Not up there with 1996 and 1988, but very good expression og Krug. Both are ready to drink now and are very enjoyable.

December 21, 2019 - Typical Krug, and much better than the btl from Jan (same source). Massively rich with loads of toast and brioche. On the palate, good acidity. Not really my favorite style.

December 21, 2019 - Wine Flock Champagne Gala (Park Ridge CC): Not a great bottle. Tired in both fruit profile (more bruised apple and earthy) and structure (a bit flat). Would've expected much better.

(Krug) This vintage is notable for being only the second ever, after the 1981, where the blend is dominated by Chardonnay. A fine clarity here on inspection, more vibrant and shimmering than the slightly richer, more matt 1996. A touch sulphurous on the nose today though, although underneath this there is a roasted element, intertwined closely with coffee beans, with a floral-citrus character laid on top. The palate is fresh, breathtakingly clean and pure, with finely delineated flavours of pithy citrus fruits and coffee. Deep and minerally, with a firm and structured finish, crisp yet broad, it has a long, incisive, fresh and pure finish. The 1996 is without a doubt the greater wine, but this is perhaps more approachable now, and surely it will drink sooner? Overall, excellent wine.
