October 4, 2006 - Decanted for 45 minutes, and served with grilled chicken. My initial impressions of this wine were not very promising at all. There wasn't much fruit, a muted nose, and I could only pick up some tart/sour strawberry notes. I could detect the faintest hint of tar, but that was it. We continued to drink this and after being opened for about 2 hours, the wine started to show more. There was still a tart strawberry note, but some plum and spice started to emerge. The tanins aren't harsh, but I'd call them "firm", and nice acidity. I'm hoping this needs a few years to come around. I have 2 bottles left, so I'll let them hang out for a year or more. 87-89 points.
