July 31, 2022 - Dark, muted rust color. Ripe, sweet fruits exploding on the nose with oiled aged leather and dried fruits. Boysenberry and fig intermixed with present alcohol levels.
p.s. snake river filets with cauliflower purée and spinach salad.
June 19, 2022 - for fathers day
it was delicious
April 1, 2022 - Wine was enjoyable and almost caramelly for the first 30 minutes then quickly moved downhill. One of our blind tasters described it as madeira and I tend to agree. Not sure where this is going but it's going there quickly IMO. I thought it was a solid aged Napa cab at first and would have scored it around a 93-94. After a little air it settled in a 91. HMC
March 31, 2022 - Brought to tonight's tasting by James and best in the early going. Beautiful, aged Napa cab nose, regal cedar notes and slightly perfumed red fruit as well. However, as the night wears on over 3-4 hours, there is some devolving of this wine into a Madeira type nose and palate. Caramel, notes rise. It's good but not as good as in the early going. Pnp and drink these in the first hour if you want their best, IMO......maybe in the 95-96 range early, 92 late so a 94 on average overall.
October 3, 2021 - Tertiary flavors are starting to come out and really show themselves. If you like your cabs young, this needs to be drunk now before it develops any farther. Really good wine regardless, has everything your looking for in Napa Cab. QPR is not there but never will be at this price point and your not drinking this for the QPR.
February 18, 2021 - Decanted 2 hours ahead. Dark, garnet red. Blueberries, rhubarb, boysenberry, spice and cassis. High alcohol and intense, unctuous mouthfeel feel. This wine could use another 5+ years which will easily improve the score.
p.s. golapkis and charred cauliflower
December 31, 2020 - opened on new year eve 2020 because I think if I drink good wine we will be done with this crappy year. decanted briefly, I think it drinking well
April 29, 2020 - 3 hr decant. Full bouquet with raspberry, kirsch, roast beef, rose, juniper berries. Taste had red berries and blueberry, along with mocha. Fine tannins and a silk/lanolin feel. Copious and very fine tears on the glass. Very fine. Rich but not overbearing. Lately my tastes have swung back to old school Bordeaux but being as objective as I can there is no denying that this is the real deal. Outstanding. Probably at peak but at least another 5 years there if not more.
Score: 95. Relative to expectations :+
February 19, 2020 - Decanted and served. Showing perfectly right now with full, completely balanced and integrated palate and very long finish with notes of fine herbs and olive oil. An absolute delight.
