January 14, 2018 - First offline of 2018 & a birthday celebration (Amali, NYC): A special treat to celebrate the birthday of a friend! The cork came out in one piece and the wine was decanted for sediment and to get some air. Color on initial decant was quite a light pink color - but after a while it came around and eventually became a bricky red color with translucent edges - so fascinating how this happens. This wine was still very much alive and enjoyable - initially quite acid forward, but similar to the color change - the palate also loosened up with air. Mature red fruits in the plum family, some dried floral notes, a bit of leather and earth. Very fun and a real special treat - thanks to M & E for sharing!!
