August 12, 2019 - Decanted and served immediately at cellar temperature. Deep, dark color with vibrant edges. Intense aromas of ripe, sweet dark fruits. Full body, smooth mouthfeel, with decent acidity and soft tannins, and a medium finish with prominent residual sweetness and lingering graphite notes. This is a big, fruit forward archtypical California wine with port-like moments. Thankfully, it still has decent acidity at age 14, and neither oak nor alcohol was too prominent. All that is testimony to excellent raw materials and good winemaking. The problem for me is the style, which is too big and leaves very little complexity in the glass. In that vein, the wine is too generically Californian - could it be Cab or Merlot instead of Syrah?

October 6, 2017 - Shockingly youthful, this tastes 10 years younger than it actually is. Textbook new world Syrah with its cracked pepper, gamy and meaty elements melding seamlessly with the black and red fruits. The wine is ripe, but not at all over the edge. It demonstrates beautiful balance and texture. The wine is made in a new world stye, but has so many delicious, classic and unmistakable Syrah flavors. I think I might need to get back on this mailing list. Yum!

July 1, 2016 - I get a lot of smokey black fruit on the nose with a touch of graphite on a long finish.

January 28, 2016 - Lunch at Houston's. Cool notes of blackberry, plum, violets, and crushed granite. With time and air, hints of mulch, leather, and potting soil emerge. Balanced on the palate, with good fruit and complexity, and a persistent finish. Not bad for 10+ years.

December 25, 2014 - Over ripe blackberries and alcohol. Intense and bitter finish. All fruit and no finesse or balance.
