May 16, 2019 - Light ruby. Lovely plummy nose mixed with spice, leather, Christmas cake and floral notes. Medium bodied and weight but such amazing length and glycerin texture. Totally at its peak but so fantastic. Make any excuses to drink this if someone offers to open it!

March 14, 2019 - Chateau La Conseillante 1982-2016: Vertical of eight vintages from four decades with winemaker Marielle Cazaux. While it might not come as a surprise that the Conseillante impresses with its seductiveness, the level of freshness and tension in all wines is remarkable. Unsurprisingly, the four best wines came all from great vintages: The 2016 stands above all the other wines and is a future star and so good to drink right now, the 2009 needed time but became better by the minute and came in close second, the 2005 is fantastic with so much intense tertiary aromatics and precision and the 1990 is in a great spot and better than the Mouton or Lynch Bages I had in the past few weeks.

TN: The highlight here were the freshness and tension. It showed riper fruit (plums!) than the other Conseillantes we had tonight, a bit candied and at times even liquory. While not my favorite style this was still surprisingly enjoyable (for an 85) even though it had not the sharpness, focus and depth of the best vintages.

    Decanting: No extended decanting needed.

March 8, 2019 - On a night of some truly magnificent wines. Not as advanced as a bottle I had a few years back which suited it well. Many experienced tasters at the table thought this was a left banker, which made me skip my initial thought of right bank (when will I learn to trust my own nose?). It started out very seductive and then firmed up. However it was still very much a Bordeaux 1985 with the lushness of that vintage.

September 27, 2018 - Pnp. Nose blasted out earth, leather, autumn leave, cedar, tobacco and plums. The plum fruit was coated by perfume and cedar. The palate was very long with lots of secondary character of a great aged claret. Medicinal and plummy but in a pleasant way. And the acidity at the backdrop provided freshness to make it lively despite the plum fruit. Drinking at its absolute peak.

July 18, 2018 - Just a super wine. There is sensuous, silky quality to the texture that gets your engines going. The truffle, mocha, wet earth and floral scents that show on top of the plums and cherries is just what the doctor ordered. There is no reason to age this any longer.
