April 2, 2024 - A fresh, plush wine with classic Cab Franc vegetable patch nose. Silky tannins and good acidity make this a pleasure to drink.
February 16, 2022 - In a perfect place in early 2022- tannins - or at least any hard edges - are resolved and while the overall impression is very much classic, somewhat savoury Loire Cab Franc, it has a lovely, gentle sweetness to it. A charming, unpretentious, authentic, great value wine !
January 3, 2022 - $16 on release? Is there a better recent $16 red out there? This stuff is so reliably excellent. Even at today’s slightly increased pricing this is always a no brainer.
December 9, 2021 - Medium ruby. Lilting aromas of flowers, dung, and chili chocolate. Sweet and aromatic on the palate with a fine dark fruit presence, medium bodied in a lovely acid frame on a firm base of integrated tannins, nicely layered and structured. Very appealing progression along the palate into the long, firm, tannic finish. Honest, rugged, friendly. 12.5% alcohol.
April 4, 2021 - Took a day before the barnyard blew off. There some juicy red fruit here and a good dose of tobacco and black tea. A splendid wine and over delivers in a subtle and intellectual way.
February 12, 2020 - Excellent Cabernet Franc from a beautiful vintage.
December 19, 2018 - Really fantastic on the nose. Slightly floral, with a bit of rose, but there are strong notes of spice and green herbs, with more tertiary leather aromas. There is a general "red berry" sort of note, but this isn't fruit forward on the nose. The palate is also driven by herbs, spices and leathery tones, with cranberry and a bit of cherry adding body through the mid-palate. There is a definite green quality to the wine, but it is a nicely integrated assortment of fresh herbs, rather than the underripe bell pepper pyrazines that I always associate with bad Chilean Pinot. This is also mitigated by a warm baking spice quality. The fruit almost seems a bit secondary and is probably the most simple aspect of the wine. Medium+ acid and tannins that sneakily rise up at times. There is a slight bitterness on the finish, which isn't at all out of place with the whole of the wine, but might not be everyone's cup of tea. The structure is there but, with the lighter nature of the fruit, I would consider this more of a mid-term ager. Pretty tough to beat a wine like this for $20.
September 2, 2018 - They see the ripeness of their own accord, but also the earth, green capsicum, drying tannins. Yes, a riper vintage, but still very drinkable
