October 3, 2018 - Solid Barbera wine (100 percent) from one of the top producers of Barolo, sourced from the sandy-limestone soils of the ‘Martina vineyard’ (Monforte d’Alba, about sixty kilometers southeast of the city of Turin, province of Cuneo). The wine was aged for twelve months in French barriques (half new, half second use). Decanted: two hours prior to tasting. Medium intense ruby-red in color and a fragrant nose of sour cherry, dried fruits, tobacco and a hint of tar. The medium-bodied palate shows nice blueberry and plum fruit, a good structure and quite a high acidity level. Spicy, slightly bitter finish. The wine is drinking well now, but I would give it two or three more years before approaching it again.

January 28, 2018 - Very tasty wine. Clean nose; lightly sweet floral aromas ahead of some cured meat. About medium in body with higher acidity and lower tannin. Purple fruit / cherry. Juicy.

May 31, 2017 - {winery visit} It's been a long time since I had a wine from this address that I just didn't care for. A long time; so long I don't remember anymore. That said, I did not care for this, finding a lack of freshness on the palate and nose, and a muddled middle with stewed fruit and raspy edges tinged with black fruit and dusty soil. Perhaps this was an off bottle, but I doubt it since it was the one being poured at the winery. Maybe it's just bottle variation (winery bottle notwithstanding), but if in fact it's representative of the vintage, then this is an easy pass. 13,5% abv. Now or in the next few years.

March 24, 2017 - Tasted at the winery. Fresh notes of spices, some red cherries, red plums, white pepper and some flowers too. It's medium bodied, with pretty high acidity and lower-medium tannin. Medium length. A super fresh Barbera full of tension and freshness, but it doesn't pack the persistence of the best vintages. Still very nice with all different types of food.
