March 11, 2023 - Wow! 19 years old and it’s eneteted an entirely new phase. This was fresh, fruity, and soft. The structure, like all Scherrer wines, was clearly there. But where Fred describes his winemaking as balancing angles and curves, this has definitely moved to the beautiful curvaceous side of life.

The color is beautiful dark burgundy with no brown around the edge. Red and black fruit, with maybe some tar and tobacco in the nose.

The taste - the first thing that struck me was how fresh the fruit was. Then we go to black cherry, maybe a hint of black licorice, and lots of other flavors I can’t quite name.

Suffice to say it was massively entertaining.

Until recently, prior to this bottle, I would have said that the 2004 OMV needed to be drunk as they were nearing their end. After this one, I’m curious as to how much longer this will go.

Big thumbs up to Fred Scherrer.

November 19, 2021 - Drank this over 3 nights. Amazing 17 year old Zinfandel. Still vibrant with beautiful color and clarity

There was a fair amount if sentiment but that wasn't an issue until the last bit.

November 27, 2016 - Good color, spicy nose. Not up to a fresher Scherrer Old & Mature, but still very drinkable. Went down easy.

August 22, 2015 - This was tremendous...spicey, lengthy finish, round Zin flavors. No hint of age, other than the balance and nuance all of "us oldsters" bring to the table. The last of the lot, alas. On to the '05s next!

February 27, 2013 - Perhaps past it's prime or possibly, just denied the "Sherrer-day-opened" treatment. Typically intoxicating aromatics, though with noticeable alcohol. Flavors so savory, as to have nearly a saline quality. Slightly tart though not offensive acidity and a long, bright finish. Still and always a fan.
