December 14, 2021 - This should have been consumed years ago. Today you find a light, earthy, herbal and tobacco-filled wine with hints of red fruits. Soft, but without much length or volume, if you have a bottle, drink it sooner than later.

February 21, 2019 - First time trying a birth year bordeaux. It's definitely past it's prime, if you have any of these remaining drink them soon. Other tasting notes are spot on, lots of acid on the back end. It took about 45 min to open up and then it had about an hour of life left in it.

May 31, 2018 - Translucent ruby red with slight bricking. Very acidic. Smooth tannic. But slightly sharp aftertaste

January 24, 2018 - Bell pepper, forest floor, green tones, the otherwise holy -82 was not a strong vintage for this chateau.

January 24, 2018 - Although a spectacular vintage in Bordeaux, 1982 wasn't a particularly good vintage for Lafon-Rochet according to the winery.

Surprisingly deep and even quite opaque black cherry color for a Bordeaux at 35 years of age, showing only very little translucency. Developed and savory, yet pleasantly complex nose with green-toned aromas of pine needles and autumnal forest after rain along with notes of dried-up dark fruit, wizened blackcurrants, some chipotle, a little bit of cooked bell pepper and a hint of incense. The wine is moderately full-bodied and very developed on the palate with the first signs of the fruit giving in while the oxidative umami notes and saline aldehydic nuances creep in. Overall the wine tastes savory and tertiary with flavors of bell pepper, dried blackcurrants, something resinous, a little bit of pungent smoke, a hint of pan-fried liver and a touch of leather. The structure feels pretty unyielding with moderately high acidity and still very firm and angular tannins - both sticking out a bit as the fruit flavors have receded. The finish is savory, meaty and somewhat oxidative with complex flavors of peppery spice, some tart dark berries, a little bit of cigar box and a hint of wizened tart plums.

A classic St. Estèphe that is pretty much at the end of its life. Most likely the wine has been in a terrific condition some 10 years ago, but now the fruit has receded quite a bit, leaving the tannins and the acidity stick out like a sore thumb. Fortunately the wine isn't completely dead and in pieces, but instead retains quite a bit of complex, nicely developed character. However, I'm pretty certain it doesn't take much longer before the wine is completely shot, so better to drink up as soon as possible. Although the wine still manages to offer some pleasure at this stage, I wouldn't say it was worth the 62,50€.
