Community Tasting Notes 5

February 11, 2010 - Loved it. Consistent with previous note except much more elegant and enticing. Still showing fairly young, so no danger with holding these for a few more years. Crazy, good deal at ~$15.

October 11, 2007 - Winestreet Does Leroy (WA Frost, St. Paul): Interesting and somewhat unusual nose -- kind of a cheesy/mushroomy smell. Not unpleasant though. On the palate, this was buttery and ripe, showing flint, citrus fruit, and some oak. Medium body and finish.

October 11, 2007 - Winestreet Tastes an Abundance of Leroy: Pale yellow color. The nose has a unique smell that is pleasing, but hard to pinpoint. Others at the table offered flint and stinky cheese as descriptors. There was definitely some fruit among the dusty funkiness. In the palate this was definitely on the fat side, wtih concentrated fruit, mineral, and charred barrel/smoky notes. OK finish. Really needs a bit more acidity to be in balance, but nitpicking aside is a very enjoyable wine. Pairing this with the amuse (beef tartare with a mild horseradish) probably didn't do it any good either.

February 19, 2007 - Same tasting note as before except this bottle had a little more minerality. Amazing consistancy from bottle to bottle.

September 3, 2006 - Decanted for about 3 hours tasted the same from beginning to end
As one woman I have dated stated previously "this wine smells like cheese". As women tend to be, she is right. If you like your whites with a little age, this wine is for you. For me, this wine demonstrates the particularities of Burgundy. What this Masion does with this little known appellation, is very impressive. This golden hued wine tastes similar to how it smells with hints of lemon and trace minerals. At this point in its life, this is a heavy Chardonnay although it retains some underlying acidity. The finish lasts for about 40 seconds. This is a distinct wine that will not appeal to those seeking gobs of fruit in their Chardonnays.
