November 15, 2022 - Stumbled upon a few bottles for a steal at auction (the last of my original 3 disappeared early in the pandemic). Wishing I bought every bottle that was available in the lot. Easily identifiable as a Staves, but I would've guessed at least 2 or 3 years younger. I don't think its aggressive to say this has plenty of time left. My patience to hold on to the last bottle will fade before it does.
August 9, 2022 - So glad that this got lost in my cellar. When first opened I was reminded of a 10 year old Chave. Wonderful creamy texture with totally integrated stone fruit. Fruit became more forward as the wine opened. If you like older whites this one should be good for a number of years.
December 14, 2020 - Inviting nose; lemon grass and minerals on the palate; oak, present but not overwhelming, did give us the sensation of drinking a Chardonnay.
June 10, 2019 - The oak has integrated since we tasted this in 2016.
Still an interesting SB.
Not the most aromatic SB.
Stone fruit dominates nose, on palate mineral, grapefruit, citrus.
Drink now.
Me - 90, Wife - 91
May 27, 2019 - everything you would expect from an SB; herbal, citrusy, but with an unctuous creamy finish that lingered
March 3, 2019 - Great bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with great acidity citrus fruit mainly lemon on the palate as well as some fresh cut grassy notes on the nose. Terrific bottle and sad it is my last. Bedrock’s Sauvignon Blanc’s are always a treat.
November 18, 2018 - Medium bodied SB that starts with some creamy oak. Moderate acidity and citrus fruit. Is the fruit fading a bit? I'd be tempted to drink now.
October 1, 2018 - Very nice SB with lemon, acidity, grassiness and interesting touch of oak
August 11, 2018 - Okay SB, not as much lemongrass as I expected
July 3, 2018 - Bedrock is known for their reds - zins, syrahs and various blends - and while I really like those, I was a bit skeptical about this sauvignon blanc - but then I tried it! I should have bought a lot more. Unfortunately it seems impossible to get now.
This SB has a remarkable combination of sweet vanilla oak, citrus, some exotic tropical fruit I can't name, and just a hint of grassiness, with a perfect balance of fruit and acid with barely perceptible residual sweetness. Apparently the vanilla oak comes from the unique Austrian barrels they used.
This is very different from the New Zealand SBs, which tend to have a strong, bitter grassy taste.
It went really well with home-made Chinese orange chicken; it would go with many foods and would be nice to sip on its own.
For my next mailing list release I will certainly be on the lookout for this SB!
