    February 14, 2021 - 14th Feb 2021:
    Decanted for 30mins
Colour was rather disconcerting as the slight browning around the edges betrayed its age. Apart from this the wine was clear and dark ruby. Surprisingly, the legs were more prominent than expected for a wine of this age.
The nose hinted of sweetness from dark cherries and no manifestation of alcohol.
The first mouthful displayed a slight hesitancy; to hold back very much like the start of a courtship beginning with uncertainty. After allowing oxidation to do its job, the subsequent mouthfuls draws you in with each sip. The tannins are soft coupled with a tinge of cherry sweetness. Hardly any evidence alcohol on the tongue. This is a medium bodied wine with a medium finish. Proves once again that Leoville Barton wines are truly enjoyable and should be savoured in their teens as they shed the heaviness and dryness of their toddler years. This wine preceded the Ch Latour of the same vintage.

February 5, 2021 - I am confused - can you help. I really enjoyed this bottle and especially after i had given it an hour or so in glass (I didn't decant). Its colour and taste profile (tannins) suggest it has plenty of drinking window left although v pleasant right now. Indeed many comments on CT say just that and collectively we have 69% of our purchases still un-consumed. BUT many observers/critics - incl Jancis - are saying drink up your 2001's. What do people think?

January 10, 2021 - Interestingly 68% of the bottles purchased are still in our cellars. My drinking of this last night would say we need to speed up a bit. The wine was very pleasant and nuanced as you would expect of a good Bordeaux. However - the tannins were just about totally gone/integrated and it was a tiny bit sharp at the start of the taste. I would say drink up over next year or so.

December 24, 2020 - Something was off with this bottle. Fruit was dried out. Improved only slightly with air. A bottle a few months ago was excellent, this was disappointing.

November 22, 2020 - What a disappointment. Pruney syrup that was more or less undrinkable. Got worse after an hour in the decanter. We sacrificed it to the drain god. Other reviewers have noted similar problems with this wine. I have four more and hoping for better luck on our next go.

(Château Léoville Barton) Very dark red violet color; focused, elegant, cherry, cassis and well integrated oak nose; tight yet on palate, but very good, well structured, cassis palate; medium finish
