April 13, 2024 - Tasted blind next to its 1985 sibling. Clearly younger and more austere, slightly green. Quite classically a Claret, very restrained but paled in comparison to the 1985.

April 1, 2024 - Crimson in color. 12.5% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, cigar box, saddle leather and graphite. Warm, supple and approachable. There is an abundance of rich, lush fruits. Currants, cassis, tobacco leaf and earth on the palate. The finish is long and silky with mostly resolved tannins. A Léoville Barton of elegance and grace. Best over the next 3-5 years.

NOSE: ripe red fruits; minty; expressive, and starting to present some tertiary character.

BODY: youthful color – violet-garnet with a faint whisper of bricking; color is of medium-deep to deep depth; medium-light to medium bodied.

TASTE: bit watery; some youthful tannin still; medium acidity; light “aged Bdx. funk”; hint of ballpoint pen ink; seems to be in its window right now: Drink Now and over the near term.

December 25, 2023 - 2023 Family Xmas; 12/23/2023-12/25/2023 (Alicante - España): Open four hours before lunch. Surely it would have benefited from an extra time. Surprisingly less ready, more compact and masculine wine than the previous bottle enjoyed eight years ago. Very dark colour with watery brownish edges. On the nose there are strong aromas of black berries, black pepper and, unfortunately, wood after 22 years even. On the palate it is decidedly dry, with an intrusive acidity, a tannic finish and unattractive oaky aftertaste. I expected a lot more. More Pauillac than St. Julien today. Merry Xmas!

¡Feliz Navidad!

Dark red, slim red edge, 5.5
Dense Medoc bouquet, pencil, dark fruits
Rather intense palate, mT, h-A, mB, dry, loads of dark fruits waiting to come forward
    Drink now-2040
    Thanks Sten

December 1, 2023 - Manly nose of classical woody, leathery black fruits, a hint of oriental spices. Rather dense and rich on the palate, slightly meaty texture, drinking beautifully now! From half bottle!

November 10, 2023 - Pop and pour as alate addition to the evening. Drunk over a couple hours

A classic nose with cassis, stone fruit, tobacco, bitter chocolate, wet bricks, and violets. Midweighted and expansive on the palate with a sense of depth and breadth greater than its weight. This is maturing beautifully, it's seamless on the palate with a mix of cassis stone fruit, tobacco, soil, bitter chocolate and subtle florals. Nothing is out of place. An effortlessly classic wine without artifice. Simply delicious. It is not a blockbuster, but it is what I want to drink. I love Leoville Barton. 93
