March 29, 2024 - Good not mind blowing bottle. Just happens sometimes. A little dirty.
December 22, 2023 - I was lucky to try this wine, brought by a collector friend. Quite dark vador like with an opaque color at its core, black fruits scents, some tertiary notes of forrest floor and exotic spices, the mouth is uber luxurious and velvety, with black fruits mingling with licorice and other spices, the finish is soft though, and somehow shows the maturity of the vintage. This at peak beauty can be kept but I do not see it improving further, what a wonderful experience !
Blind I would have rated 96 but the rarity to drink at peak Rousseau deserves the bump to 98.
March 25, 2023 - This bottle has more tertiary flavor like leather, at the same time with aroma of flower. High acidity and rough tanning. lack of structure. Tastes very sweet somehow. Less concentration and less mouth coating than I thought.
December 29, 2022 - I last tried this 12 years ago when words simply couldn’t describe how incredible it was. Last night’s bottle had fulfilled that youthful promise. Incredibly perfumed nose of sweet red and black fruits. Notably more mature in every respect than the Leroy served alongside. Colour showed a fair bit of bricking and this bottle was clearly a point. Such intensity of sweet fruit on the palate. This bottle was showing absolutely everything it had whereas the Leroy was clearly still holding back. Outstanding. We argued back and forth about which of the two people preferred, until the last wine of the flight appeared…
January 5, 2022 - Maturing and gaining more subtlety.
February 28, 2021 - Good but not great bottle of this wine. Slightly advanced. The pure '90 cherry fruit is there but it's fading a bit.
February 9, 2021 - Quite typical with a shade less precision than one expects here. Good nose, better with air time. Peak.
January 18, 2021 - Technically flawless, but lacking the fireworks I’d hoped it would bring. Compared to the 1990 Chave and 1995 Cathelin, this seems kind of pedestrian. I know this is apples to oranges, but those are the last two monumental wines I’ve had along with this one.
Basically, I should never drink a wine worth more than $200 because I’m a cheap bastard and the opportunity cost of any single bottle worth more than that will never deliver the incremental joy to justify the increase in price.
September 14, 2020 - Ripe in the middle, but fading a little on the edges. Characteristic but not the best bottle.
August 8, 2020 - Full and ripe. Not quite as defined or enjoyable as the '89 and '93 served alongside, but quite accessible given its depth
