May 15, 2019 - Nice and balanced between sweet black fruit and stony minerality, very enjoyable

April 5, 2019 - First of 3 bottles from a recent auction purchase (a bit over $50@). Opened, small taste. Big nose dominated by licorice with secondary notes of dark fruit and wet earth, consistent with first taste. 2 hour decant which somewhat integrated the licorice notes, but no need if you're ok with that tasting note. On tasting, fruit notes became more distinguishable as blackberry and cherry. Lesser notes of chocolate and eucalyptus. Not much acid but still fairly strong tannins, which keeps the wine from feeling flabby. Blend is mouvedre-dominant, so it doesn't have the mouth-watering qualities of Grenache-based blends or the spiciness of syrah-based blends, but rather a drying sensation (may also be the tannins). Definitely a Southern Rhone style. Consistent tasting notes on day 2; solid persistence gives the sense that WS was unduly pessimistic in saying drink by 2020. Paired very well with a spicy black bean soup and stuffed peppers. QPR feels about right at what I paid for this, a really nice, solid wine, if not quite what some of the other CT reviewers and Parker have rated it. Still, glad I have 2 more bottles left.

June 22, 2018 - I opened this with friends on 6/22/18. It had a deep, rich, layered bouquet of black cherry, blackberry, plum, forest floor, mocha, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was rich, complex and balanced with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice.

February 2, 2018 - I opened this when friends came over on 2/2/18. It had a rich, elegant and earthy bouquet of damp forest, black cherry, blackberry, smoke, mocha, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was rich, complex and seamless with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice.
