December 24, 2020 - {diam, 14.5%} Still a crimson hint to the colour. Bouquet is a bit primary, a bit developing. Currant, plum, chocolate, vanilla oak too. Palate is heftily medium/full-bodied, low in acidity, with lots of black tinged fruit flavours, low dusty tannins. Tending to a bruiser style, but has no raisin or dead grape flavours, just a sense of pushing the boundary a bit. I wish it was a bit less alcoholic, or had a bit more freshness, or more complexity to the overall presentation. Will no doubt age for 5-10 or more years, but may not ever actually amount to more complexity or dimension.

May 18, 2017 - A very confusing wine
Here I was looking at a 96 from Tony keys then a 95 from Sam Kim and a 93 from Patrick Eckles, throw in two gold medals, one form China another from an International wine tasting and I was looking down the barrel of a very good wine.....but wait Doc halliday arrives on his mule and buries me in the dust with an 86.
What the hell !!!!
Was the doc drunk ?
Was he having a bad day or was he miffed because they didn't send him a dozen or perhaps they didn't send him the first bottle ?
Who knows , but someone has to sought this mess out .
Anyway it turns out the truth is out there.
I open a bottle of my dozen and attempt to get to the truth .
This wine is peppery, earthy, a wiff of alcohol a little oak and a little cassis.
On the tongue , it is, with tannin, grip, astringent, firm , medium fruit, further development .
I think perhaps 96 is out of the question , but it may well get there given a year or two.
The 86 is an aberration, poor Doc, as he gets older he gets more confusing, perhaps dementia , as he gave the 2013 vintage 95 points ,so it is a stretch to see a swing of 9 points on a very good wine.
93 at present great drinking, definitely not velvety as one Vinomofo described, as i said confusing, very confusing.
October 2020 .
Can't believe it's been that long since I last tasted this .
A little alcohol pushing through on the nose but nothing to worry about .
On the tongue the fruit has softened the tannins mellowed ,not astringent it is probably drinking at it's peak and I give it an extra point.
