March 20, 2021 - Red and black fruit with hints of mocha and a good tannin structure ... When first opened you really get the wood, but that dissipated as it remained open. By the hour mark we're looking at a wine rich in dried raspberry - smoky - meaty - and dark cherry.

September 9, 2019 - Etihad & Lufthansa - flights & lounges; 9/8/2019-9/14/2019 (Sydney, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt, Berlin): {cork} Carignan/Grenache blend. Fearsome! Nose is youthful, with raisins, boiled plums and plenty of fumey warmth evident. But there’s a strident earthy note too. Surprisingly perhaps, the palate is open and loose, a touch rustic (see Carignan). Stewed red flavours are overt, with medium acid, medium gritty tannins, and a fairly even palate, albeit one carried a bit by alcohol. Medium/full-bodied, despite little obvious oak. Medium length warm finish. Best before a decade I think. (Etihad First Lounge Abu Dhabi)

February 5, 2018 - A blend of Carignan, Syrah and Garnacha. 14% alcohol.

Opaque black-red cherry color. Ripe, fruity and very dark-toned nose with aromas of sweet blackcurrants, some fresh and sappy green notes, a little bit of damsons and sour dark plums, a little bit of sweet oak and a herbal hint of mint and even some dill. The wine feels full-bodied, rich and quite concentrated on the palate with ripe, voluptuous flavors of wizened dark fruits, some chocolatey oak, light sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of prune, a hint of brambly blackberry and a herbal touch of mint. Overall the wine feels firm and structured with moderately high acidity and quite ample and firm tannins that lend a rather grippy touch to the wine. The finish is rich, juicy and pretty lengthy with complex flavors of ripe dark berries, sunny dark fruits, even some pruney fruit, a little bit of toasty oak spice, a hint of caramel and a touch of blackcurrant.

I had my reservations on this wine, because so many people had said it was yet another boring super-wine in the Torres range. However, I was positively surprised by the balance and the freshness this wine shows, all thanks to its good acidity, firm tannins and flavors of freshly picked dark berries. Of course the wine is rather modern in style, with those sweet oak tones and rich notes of slightly dried fruits making the wine quite easy and approachable, but I was fearing for a lot worse. The wine is a bit too modern and oaky for my taste right now, but as the wine shows good cellaring potential, there is a promise that this will perform a lot better if left to age some more. I'd wait until the wine is at least 10 years old just to see how it develops - hopefully for better.

December 19, 2016 - Ensamblaje de cariñena, garnacha y syrah.
Granate oscuro, bastante cubierto y brillante.

December 19, 2016 - Apperitiving by Madrid; 12/19/2016-12/20/2016 (RVGDLN Y Cuenllas): Served by the glass. Mazuelo is very frank and direct, too much in my humble opinion. There is no elegance at all.
In the mouth it is rough, astringent and tannic. A "new marvel".
Another test in the style of the omnipresent Torres.

April 12, 2016 - Bought on recommendation of a trusted supplier as a 91 rated for a good price. On opening, sharp and edgy and soooo young........not a remarkable start. However , 3 hours later after decanting it was a different proposition altogether. Bought 3 bottles and the other 2 are going away for a decent stretch. I know it will be well worth it when I parole them. Not my 91 right now but believe this can be special in a couple of years.[I gave a 93 score when originally posted - this was a typo error on my part]
